Killing Zoe
Directed by Roger Avary 1993
The music for The Strangers was created with silence in mind. The silence is the music and the score punctuates the silence: the awkwardness of no sound can be as scary as any score. When the score did play however, it was strange with unfamiliar proportions and mixes: loud distorted guitar noises were softly mixed against extremely loud cello harmonics. These odd orchestrations were coupled with a broadly evolving wall of orchestra, which by the end of the film overwhelmed the acoustic space.
