The Hills Have Eyes

Directed by Alexandre Aja 2006

"The Hills Have Eyes is not only a classic horror film full of gore and violence, it's a true survival Western recounting the nightmare endured by the Carter family while trapped in the most desolate environment, facing the unknown. To show the strength and tension of their unique experience we wanted the music to be organic and visceral. Not only to give the film life, but to also capture the primitiveness and rawness with which the family is confronted. The goal was to transform the breathtaking and peaceful desert of New Mexico into a menacing and threatening landscape, turning it into the true enemy. But we also needed music capable of going beyond terror and tension everyone anticipated, becoming epic and triumphant in the third act. Most importantly we needed music that could serve the story and accompany our hero into the depths of despair, dramatic darkness, and revenge.

Few composers are capable of such a creative arch. TOMANDANDY accepted the challenge and followed us every step of the way on the rough and dangerous path through The Hills. It turned out to be a perfect collaboration to which this album is a testament. Even without the film’s images, the music gives a haunting experience of survival and terror. The score is a unique and visceral combination of electronic oddity and classic orchestration, powerfully echoing every emotion our heroes feel, and sharing them with the audience.”
